A new store for Goldengen accessories !!

Yes, I am now salling my Goldengen accessories line in a gorgeous store in the Old port call Galerie Zone Orange. They took my necklaces and my bow for hair.

Sorry, my pictures are not terrific but you get the idea right?

Silly Kissers - Halloween Summer

The amazing Silly Kissers are playing tonight at the beautiful Rialto. After a day of walking in the rain all across Montreal, this show will be my reward. The show its lonely 5$ and if you want to dance tonight, that’s the show you should see.

Doodlers Anonymous

I just discover this art/drawing website call Doodlers Anonymous and I think it’s a great one.
Since two weeks the owners are launching a new section on the site called SHOWCASE: a weekly challenge where you'll be able to upload and show-off your doodles under a specific theme.
This week, the challenge is to draw a line from a book your really like. It has to be old school drawing, no computer and I think that’s awesome. I am going to participated for sure, I just have to find out witch author I am going to pick, probably Jeffrey Brown.

You can find more detail about the contest here and you have till next Wednesday to upload your submission.

Outfits from a New Era

My friend/partner in crime of Molykulte and I are participating in a exhibition call O.N.E Objets Non Enfouis :: Outfits from a New Era. This event is all about making a dress with recycled material and is the second edition after a break of three years. We participated in 2007 and the challenge was to make a dress with shotgun shells. In our design we used up somewhere near 1450 shells and trust me it is a very hard material to work with. It took us a nearly a good two weeks non-stop to finally create something that a model can wear and walk on the runway with.

In early July of this year we received a call from K - the girl who was in charge of  the formentioned project- she mentioned that she was redoing the event with new designers and she decided to choose four dresses from the last 2007 show for the new show; and guess what...? we were chosen. What that meant for us was that we had to dust off and re-work the dress that happend to be stuck in a box for quite some time.

So now the dress needs to be ready for October 10th  and for some reason we have only started to work on it last night... I just got back from my workshop and I worked 3 hours on it, can you see any difference?
  before                                                                                                                   after

We plan to work on it more this Friday night inbetween Pop Montreal events. Hopefully we will make the `target`date and look good.

Me and Vernissage...

I love going to vernissage, everyone who knows me can tell. Every week, since almost three years, I go to opening galleries, stores, book lunchs... name it and I’m there. They are usually on Thursday night and I am lucky enought to live close to a bunch of galleries, so I kind of pretend its on my way home...
In Pop Montreal festival, I'm in haven because there are a lot of vernissages. It all starts tomorrow with a triple launch night at Yves Laroche galery : Self published/ Publish and Par Chemin
Shit, there is going to be a lot of people, but I think it is worth it to go. I love art-graphic books and magazine so this exhibition will be very interesting for me. I am a zinemaker-lover, so I am very curious about the Self published event. The exhibition contextualizes the work of local designers and artists within a growing international community interested in the artistic qualities of fine, small-edition publishing. I really like the work of the collective French Fourch, I like the way they play with humor in their designs. Snap Magazine will also be presenting something.
Friday, I am going to An exhibition featuring North American rock poster artists, The Birth of Art at the dead of the vinnyl. The exhibition is about stunning concert posters from Dominique Pétrin, Nomn Ryn, Dirty Donny, Day Gristle, Sweet Grognasse, Aimée Van Drimelen, Alan Forbes andMarielyne Tarabulsy.
I love well done music posters so this event look interesting to me. I was also happy to learn that this event will be the launch of art shows at the Death of Vinyl record store and there is going to be many more to come.

Fashion Pop

Oh yeah, it’s starting soon, Pop Montreal !!
I love this festival. My expectations and activities are different every years and somehow, this ninth edition will make me discover more arts and symposium than music. I am still going to go see some bands, but not like I use to. Maybe the fact that I am totally broke play on this decision...
Anyway, I am pretty sure it is going to be an amazing 5 days.

On Wednesday, I am attending Fashion Pop, who returns with a fresh selection of local up-and-coming design talent. I wasn’t able to go last year, but this time -with my too much times off- there is no reason for me this miss that event.
The fashion show will feature the work of 6 fashion designers on the rise, each presenting a 6 look mini-collection to a panel of judges working in the industry. This year's show will feature mini-collections from Market Market by tessier+vinuela, Prototype by Catherine Durocher, José Manuel St-Jacques, & many others by Caroline Laquerre, Natasha Thomas and THIRD EYE by Dessaivre.

I am really curious about the work of José Manuel St-Jacques. I see this guy often in my neighbourhood and everyday glamour is indeed what you think when you see him. Also, the fashion is going to be at possibly one of the most visually stunning of major local venues, the Rialto Theatre. I live on Parc Avenue and I pass in front of this beautiful building almost every day so I am thrill to see what it look like inside. The venue was close for three years, the revitalized Rialto promises to once again reclaim its stature as one of the most glorious mid-sized venues this city has to offer. Can't wait to see that...

Speaking of fashion, I have an interview on Thusdays for the Conseillère/ Gestion boutique job...
Yes, yes yes !!!

Bows

This is just a small part of my collection of bow knot. I am kind of addict to them, because they are such an easy but powfull accessories to wear. I mean, they can change a outfit really quickly by making yourself more feminine, sassy or classical depending of witch size/colors and textures you choose to wear. And thrust me, they can attained a fantastic number of shapes ranging from immense confections to no more than a few bits of cloth and decorations piled on top of the head.
Since maybe a year and a half, bow knot as become formerly an indispensable portion of my daily outwear:
on dresses as an embellishment and as headwear.
My favorite use to be oversize bows, but since I cut my hair, I have to find other ways to wear them. I like to make them part of the structure, rather than a mere embellishment.

Another week without a job

It’s the beginning of another week without a job and I am not so worried or have the feeling of impatience because I have a chance to get two interviews.

One is kind of already confirmed; I applied for a marketing/communication coordinator job and I have passed the first phone interview. I had to answer questions about what kind of person I am and where I see myself in five years...big stuff. After four days of consideration I finally got an e-mail saying I was in for the next round:

The other possible interview is in the fashion industry. I applied for a “Conseillère en boutique/ Gestion commerciale” position for a well known Montreal woman’s designer. The tasks mentioned look very familiar with what I was doing when I had my own shop the Molykulte store, so I’m sure I will be fine with that. To be honest I am not so sure about working in the fashion industry again. It is a hard world and seems to be even more challenging when the brand is from Montreal. One other thing about this position is that nothing is guaranteed that I would be able to work full time all year. So in the slow/dead seasons I am just going to be part time... Which on another hand could be good for me; it will give me more time to concentrate on my Goldengen line. Anyways, for now I am just hoping to get the interview!!!

« Nous avons bien reçu votre candidature. Nous sommes présentement à accumuler et réviser les CV. Si vous êtes retenu(e), nous vous contacterons d'ici la fin de la semaine prochaine. Merci"

So stay tune, more to come...

Lazy Sunday

Sunday was a gray, cold day so we choose to stay home all day and be really lazy. I love those days! My boyfriend and I love food and love to eat. When we do days like this it will always involve cooking and eating a lot of small snacks. So to start this perfect lazy snacking Sunday I made blueberry-dark chocolate crepes. I am not a big crepe eater but it seemed like I was in the mood for it this weekend. I served it with fresh strawberries, syrup and good french pressed coffee, it was delicious.

Later in the day we played games, Rummy & Backgammon while snacking on some Korean dishes. My lover worked for seven weeks in Korean this summer (yes, it was very long for me) and apparently the food was really really amazing. Yesterday afternoon we were walking on St-Catherine O (which he calls Chinatown west) and he was right. I discovered there was so many Asian restaurants and shops for food.
We found ourselves in a Korean/Japanese grocery store. We boughts tons of food that he reconized which it inlcuded this fried squid and spicy cucumbers a Korean regular dish.

I was really surprised by the taste and the sensation of the squid; it was like eating gummies but with a salty/spicy flavour. We ate it just as is, yet my boyfriend suggested we try it as a sandwich addition which is giving me thoughts of tomorrow`s lunch...

The Goldengen Bracelets

Like I said before, I started a small line of accessories and here's my bracelets:

You can find them in stores in Montreal or e-mail if you want one because I don't have an Etsy shop yet and I'm not sure if I want one...

Saturday Breakfast

We had a few pints yesterday night at Snack bar; since we both didn't eat a proper dinner we woke up pretty hungry. Looking in the fridge there was leftover of some amazing tastful Tofurky Italian sausages that was near to expire soon. So I decided to make crepes filled with caramelize onions and the sausages. It turned out to be really good!! This exactly the right amount of fat, sweetness and comfort food I need it after a night of drinking.

If you are a breakfast lover, you should check out this link A perfect Spread. This amazing site is just about breakfast and it always gives me crazy breakfast ideas and recipes.

My tags

This is my tag/label I put in my clothing line; they are all different because I use recycle fabrics, but it’s all flowers. I was feeling girly-girl that day...

Deerhunter - Halcon Digest

Deerhunter is one of my favourite bands and I can't wait to hear the new album Halcyon Digest. The CD is coming out on September 28 and it will be the sixth record of the group. I'm probably going to listen to it on repeat for a few days, if not for weeks! And not just because I like them, but with a band like Deerhunter, it takes a dozens and dozens of listens in various times and places to fully be able to understand everything about them.

First post...

I never really thought of having a blog before, but with all my “unnecessary welcomed” free time, it seems to be a good way to not feel so guilty about all the hours lost of sneaking on other blogs...
Also, I need it a place to fill things I’m currently working on.
since a few weeks ago, I created Goldengen  an accessories/silkscreen line. It started as a time killer in between searching for jobs and the going to the gym. It also was good for my mental health, not having a job makes me feel sort of useless and seems to get me really moody.
Goldengen was supposed to be just simple easy accessories and some of them are, yet it was not enough for the fashion designer still inside of me. So with that said : Tomorrow, will be my first delivery of my new dresses I designed and sown(doing it all myself has limited me to  just six dresses; 3 different models ).  I am a bit nervous. The manager of the first store I choose to show my work normally likes my stuff... This was the first boutique I started with a consignment agreement for my accessories. I will know shortly if that is going well…
