POP Montreal T-Shirt Design contest

Hé oui, another t-shirt contest!
I didn’t succeed at the moniker t-shirt contest, but it didn’t discourage me for applying to one more challenge. Pop Montreal is having their first annual t-shirt contest. The task was to design a T-shirt for POP Montreal incorporating at least one version of their logo and using only two colors (the t-shirt is going to be ash gray).
I’ll try to submit a other one this week, yes you still have time to participate; the dead line is March the 4th. You can read all the info here.

Good luck, cause only two winning designs will be unveiled.

Back to the future

I love art, but I’m really more an illustration/painting girl. I studied photography in university, although this medium never touches me that much. That was until I saw these pictures, from the talented Irina Werning;

Negra 1980 and 2010, Buenos Aire
MECHI IN 1990 & 2010, Buenos Aires
Lulu & G in 1980 & 2010, Buenos Air
NICO IN 1990 & 2010, France

Isn`t amazing? I love it!

" When Mars enters Pisces on February 22, to stay until March 31, you will start to enjoy life more. Next month these areas will become even bigger and brighter for you, so by the end of February, when Mars begins to energize this area of your chart ruling travel, study, and information, you will simply be seeing the start of a trend that will grow."

Thank you Susan Miller, this is closely to what I wanted to hear these days.
I’m tired of the cold (the amazing weather of last Friday made me realize how mad I am now with the freezing temperature), I really, really need a new job and all this combined takes away my patience at home…

I like to read horoscopes when I’m having the blues (its better than eating cookies) and Susan Miller is pretty good at raising my hopes about my future. So far, its kind of true what she is predicting for me because my work is paying  me to take¸four two day courses in march and yesterday, I was talking about my summer vacations with my lover...
Now tomorrow looks more exciting, it is not going to be a regular tuesday; I am gonna start a new chapter in my life (hahaha... yeah right !)Well, I let you know how it goes…

Do you also have kitschy believing and/or daily read your horoscope?

Wild Nothing - Confirmation

Wow, I went to see Wild Nothing yesterday night at Sala Rosa and it was so good! Don’t know if it was because it has been a long time since I saw a show (and was really excited about it but at the same time, I got a bit discouraged with my new wardrobe; it’s now a working girl office clothing and it was really different from what I had when I was a fashion designer…) Anyway, the band got me with their peppy beats and ringing overlaid guitars.

I can’t exactly explain it, but sometimes I feel that some of us that were born in the ’80s are passionate for a kind of musical nostalgia of that era. For me, wild nothing is all about the Smiths. They make me revisit memories that never happened to me, cause I never been to a Smiths show and I am not sad in general for that...

But please, don’t wake me; I’m only dreaming.

An Island

AN ISLAND - 3rd TEASER - Vincent Moon & Efterklang from Rumraket on Vimeo.

Tomorrow night, before going to see this show, I will attend the launch of an Island, a movie by Vincent moon at D &Q. This original music performance film is also an abstract documentary about a band and an island. From what I read about it, the objective was to shoot a film with the same length of an album. The movie was done in an intense four days and the group-Efterklang collaborated in that same time frame with more than 200 local musicians, kids and their own parents.

I never heard this band before, I heard they are sing on the same label as Deerhunter- which is always a good thing for me- but the trailer look interesting and I really need to discover new music. Plus, I always enjoyed a launch at Drawn & Quarterly so why not going?

Tapas à la Dumas

Last Thursday was a significant night for my Rummy competition. We need it good finger foods to stay calm and it was also a tricky way to distract my partner…

I started with one of my classic; the roasted butternut squash. I am really in love with this simple, healthy and seasonal dish. I both some polenta for the first time and polenta was not something I ate growing up and I have recently begun to eat it in restaurants so I wanted to use it in my cooking. I was not so sure what do to with it so I end up trying two ways of cooking it; here the polenta was mix with spicy pimentos sauce, dip in breadcrumbs and cook in the oven.

In the second version, I coated the polenta in pesto and sautéed in a bit of olive oil with garlic and spinach. I served with caramelize onion, sundry tomatoes, chorizo and a bit of lemon mayo (I was affraid it could be dry). Wow, the result was amazingly good!

The last part of the meal, which I kind of call “Tapas à la Dumas” was mini pizza made on pita bread with pesto, avocado, mushroom stuffed with feta and old strong cheddar. It was crazy good delicious!

But the best part of this fun night was definitely the fact that I didn’t lose the Rummy tournament! Okay, I am really close to it, but the last round will be play this weekend…

MACHINE WASH COLD contest

I want to submit a design (maybe 2) at MACHINE WASH COLD- TUMBLE DRY LOW.
This is an artist and apparel showcase that Moniker curate, print and host since a couple of years in Montreal. The items that would be printed for this show will join their limited edition clothing line.
I didn’t give much time on this project and I kind of just play with the same idea, but I really don’t know which of those tees I should propose...

Any suggestions, please? The dealine is Friday...

My obsession for Sketchbooks continue...

Yes, another post about Sketchbooks!
Those cuties babies are from a talented artist/designer based in London. Evelin Kasikov transformed the printing processes into hand embroidery. I just post her sketchbook but you can look at her website to see her CMYK cross-stitch print.

A visite at The Founderie boutique

Last weekend, on my way to the market, I stop at the founderie boutique. I only came onces at the opening vernissage and I was curious to see how it is now.

The clothing’s are nice high end vintage pieces but what I prefer about this store is the merchandising of the product; the design of the entire store is impeccable. Everything I saw was subtly organized by some kind of very balanced and deliberate color scheme.
The owner definitely has a knack for finding amazing vintage furniture/decorations and the result is colorful, filled with interesting details and loaded with art.
See what I mean ?!!

You really need to go for a tour.

Has this every happened to you in winter time?

F#@! I am so tired of buying new pair of tights that I am accepting this is as my new fashion look…
Yeah, I still feel a tad shy; at work I take off my boots and put my shoes really fast to avoid someone noticing.

Meet Paul Liebrandt

This documentary looks interesting to me because it involves food and art.

A Mounthful is the work of director Sally Rowe and follows the chef Liebrandt. He him followed the chef at the time his was well know as the most original chef in New York to his downfall and all the way to his recent comeback as the head of TriBeCa’s Corton. Liebrandt, with his challenging avant-garde cuisine became the youngest chef ever awarded three starts from The New York Times but also, one of the most controversial cooks in town.

The film premieres will be at the South by southwest Film Festival in March, so I guess I’ll have to be patient to see it.

Designed by the architect William Morgan in 1975, this double height apartments carved into a sand dune!
I love it!

My kind of cakes

This is exactly the kind of cakes I would like to make!

I don’t bake stuff cause I have unlike falling recipes but in the case of baking a cake, it’s really important, it’s like doing science; all the ingredients has to have to good amount. But when I look at the SundayCake –invented by Danklhampel a Viennese product/design duo- I am willing to retry my baking experience.
Imagine making a cake that is divided into different segments of various shapes, sizes and of course flavors! The result asno choice to be an artful creation that will satisfy all craving. And it doesn’t matter that much if in the beginning I don’t succeed one part!

body remix finale bODY rEMIX les vARIATIONS gOLDBERG

Hurry up and buy tickets if you are interesting in seeing dance shows from the COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD. It’s not often that they are performing in Montreal and also doing for different representations.

I choosed to go see bODY_rEMIX because it looks very fascinating. From what I witnessed from some extracts on the web and what I heard from my co-workers who saw it, this dissonant choreography about the beauty and frailty of the human body look amazing.

I saw Les Trous du ciel in January when they were rehashing the show (it was never been dance since ten years) as a practiced for the April run and it was interesting...Sorry for my lack of vocabulary, but I don’t know a lot about the “dance world” and from what I saw so far (and it was also always from the same dance company), I am still not sure if it’s the kind of art that touch me. But I am willing to see more and more shows and hopefuly get a better and strongly opinion about it…

There’s still a few tickets that you can buy here

These Days

I don’t know what I have these days, I feel like doing nothing after work; good bye my good habits of going to the gym or clean and cook. No, I come home, go straight in the kitchen and I eat tortillas chips until it’s not fun anymore (need to ask my boyfriend to hide them from me when his going to come home) and then, I read, read and read. It feels so good to forget everything and lived the life of someone else for a view hours.

Maybe it’s because my job is really boring since a few weeks. I am getting anxious again about my future. Shit de shit. I am afraid that if I stay there for too long I will never get my dream job - ok, I’m not sure what it is yet – but I want to use my creativity again, I truly miss contributing to projects and give my original ideas…

So since two weeks, I am slowly back on jobs searches. I checked 3-4 times a week and applied to a small amount of positions and also to company I would like to work for. Of course, the only feedback I received so far was from those companies. They say I would be a nice complement in their team, but there are not hiring now…

Anyway, I am not going to make a big deal about it now. I still okay at my job, I just really realized I can’t stay there; I deserve way better in tern of challenge. So I’m patient, I’m looking and let see what is going to happen…
