My three meal courses

Mon amoureux and I play Rummy almost every weekend and we love it.

It is always more entertaining when you can win or lose something when it comes to playing the game. So in the last couple of months we decided to do a big tournament. The first to collect 120 points was deemed the loser. Since we have had bets before; winning was usually gained a date to favorite or new restaurant on the losers bill. This time we wanted to make it different this time; mainly to keep with a new year resolution to eat out less. So the conclusion was the looser would have to cook a three course meal for the winner on an agreed date.

And I won !!!

So this Saturday was my big dinner and I was really happy and quite surprised on how my boyfriend handled it. It all started with the appetizer: a salad with a homemade dressing that was made by a mix of broccoli, strawberry, balsimic vinger and sun dried tomatoes. It was served with amazing large grilled spiced with piri- piri scallops and topped off with fresh blue cheese. The combination of all those fresh ingredients was perfect.

The main dish was a filet sole with potatoes and spicy small jalapenos stuff with feta cheese (did I mentioned it was highly spiced?). The meal was delicious but it had a strong, slightly devious personality. We had a very good wine to compliement the  meal. The fish was melting in my mouth but the jalepnos were too much to finish eating. Which was fine because I still had to have dessert...

Too bad we forgot to take a picture of the actual dessert which was a incredible home made hot chocolate with whisky! Wow it was so good, so rich and warm and amazing, and I can continue decribing how rich and good it was forever.. Anyway  it was served with homemade Pilsbury (can I use the term homemade in that regards?) chocolate chip cookies.

It was a remarkable night, I was really delighted to see my man running the kitchen and of course, me doing nothing in the kitchen (not even the cleaning) that is always enjoyable.

We decided to choose the same goal for our next Rummy...
Hopefully, I’ll win again, i`ll keep you posted.

I'm sick

I eat something that was not good anymore yesterday night and since, I am super sick...
First time in my life a have food intoxication and it’s not fun at all. Yesterday night, I throw up like there was no tomorrow… I don’t like this sensation of feeling miserable in my bed with an upset stomach. The only thing I can do (base on my researches) is rest and stay hydrated, drink frequent sips of clear liquids. I need to get up and go by ginger .

Man Like You

Since I saw the last episode of Mange ta Ville: Inventé la suite, I’m obsessed with this Patrick Watson song.

I never really listen to his music, but wow, I really fall in love with this song!
Maybe it's because in the T.V show, the song was associated with a dance performance of Dave St-Pierre and its was sooo beautiful !I didn’t find a version of that last episode of Mange ta Ville, but ARTTV will be reposing it on Tuesday at 1h30 am. I definitely recommend this show; it’s worth it to be a little tired at work the next day...

I discover those mix and match pictures and I think it’s brilliant. The girl had a file full with street styling pictures and she decided to paired them with paintings, labels, nature…

Wish we have this in Montreal...

There is currently a trendy movement occurring in Los Angeles that has seen the marriage of books and bars. Yes, that’s right – drinking establishments that have lined their walls, and shelves, with everything from hardbound classics and modern novellas to law encyclopedias and philosophical tomes.

This place is call "The Wellesbourne" and it's in Los Angeles, a little bit too far for me now. But there is a chance this new trend Bars & Books will get close to me...

Okay,Okay I know, I am on a “diet” but it’s the weekend and if I’m already a few pounds up, why not embrace the moment and eat potatoes?

This simple dish is perfect for a cold evening and it was really easy to do. It is basically just a layer of potatoes I use three kind of potatoes; (one normal, one red and my favorite a sweet potatoe) with onion, cheese and fresh sage. We were so hungry that I forgot to take a pictures on the dish when it was ready and I only realized after two servings…needless to say it was a hearty healthy way to warm up and forget about that diet thing..

Sketchbooks

I use to always having a sketch book and just taking a look at these amazing pages made by Anna Rusakova makes me want to have one again. For a long time now, I sort of find it irresistible to do illustrations on a sketchbook or any paper. Also if you have read my blog before you might see that most of the illustration postings are from a sketchbook.

I would like to draw more in 2011 and it is time for me to create some brand new drawings and try to draw something other than girls...

I just found a found this marvelous project: The Sketchbook project. Sadly the signup to participate is over. The Art House Co-op is behind this project and participants get sent a blank sketchbook for you to draw all over it. You then send it back to them when it’s filled. Finally then your sketchbook is exhibited at galleries as it makes its way across the country on a tour! Is that amazing???
Well next year for sure I'm in! But for now, I am gonna pratice...

What I look at night...

This is my porn

Love that site!

The guy is scanning all his sandwiches and give the receipt if he made it or tell you were he bought it and how he scan it !

Exemple: Homemade: Fresh Turkey, Sprouts, Swiss Cheese, Purple Onions On a Baguette. Scanned in collaboration with Microsoft’s Deep Zoom.

I adore sandwich but I sometime found it hard to get a decent sandwich at a good price. I don’t know if it’s because I once, lived in France were excellent sandwiches where on every corner.  My favorite place so far is Clarke Boulangerie.

It’s a in-and-out place, no frills, always super fresh and almost any choice on the board are 4,00$.  With my new life 9h to 5h worker girl, I can only go on Saturdays and that’s what I am going to do this Saturday, after cleaning for the last time my workshop!

How is it going for you this first post-holiday week?

Honestly, I am kind of finding it hard. The two first nights I had some big sleeping problems, plus on Monday and Wednesday after work I had to run to gym and the workshop to sell my sewing machines + cooking suppers and making lunch… Today, I had a non-stop headache but I think is maybe caused by my small detox- it has been about 4 days since my body has had any alcohol…

It’s not as bad as it look, it’s just accommodation and get back to a routine.
To try to help the “detox” going faster and long term, I bought this today:

Apparently this product combines a powerful blend of ingredients that support daily, full body cleansing and detoxification. It will also help increase energy and my mood swings (boyfriend is going to be happy about that…). I’ve never taken a supplement with any regularity, believing that good nutrition will do the job. However, I felt like I need it a little help.

I am starting tomorrow and will see…

Did you ever try this green+ daily detox? Did it work?

Fanzines-the DIY Revolution

Ohoh, I’m thinking of a last gift to me from me...

I saw this amazing big book about zines when I was shopping for Christmas gifts. It was too expensive to buy it for me considering I was not yet finished getting my gifts for others. Yet with the magic of the Boxing Day and the internet; I just found it on Amazon and the book is now half price with free shipping!!!

I feel like having this book would be almost like buying in single purchase a ton of zines all at once.  It seems that this book has such a great visual presentation of some of the most remarkable fanzines ever produced. It details the entire history of fanzines in America and in Britain, complete with interviews, cover shots and analysis of the eras and themes.

I am going to sleep on the idea of buying because I did spend alot of money in during my vacations (it was also not a good idea to visit the dentist twice either..)

2.1.11

Happy New Year everyone! Sorry for being a little late, but I basically did nothing yesterday.

Today, is my last day before returning to work... Just thinking of it makes me feel anxious. The fact that I also booked an appointment at the dentist right after my first day of work + a rendez-vous at my work shop to sell a sewing machine does not help either. That means I am going to be home around 8pm, not a super start for a comeback to real life...

My vacations were great, it has been quite an eventful and exciting two weeks but it’s time to move on. I have the feeling that 2011 is going to be a good year for me and I am excited for the new year.
Yes I did take some resolutions this year; drink two times a week and lose some weight – like thousands of other people. I am very serious about it; my goal is to go down to least 12 pounds. I feel like I never have been as big as I am now in my life and I feel quite uncomfortable in all my clothing and I am sick of this, so in 2011 I am super motive to get my body back and not slack where I was slacking . I am also turning 30 in six months and I know that the metabolism is bound to get slower when you get older, so I  prefer to lose weight before. So yesterday, I bought my first weight-scale and this morning I bravely went on it and took all my measurements. eesh! , it was a bit painful to see the result but looking at those results made the motivation higher.
I know it’s going to be a long process and I need to be super patience and do it the  right way. I am thinking of posting my evolution and result on this blog, it is going to help me persist and stay motivated.

Other than that, I also hope to take the time to blog more this year.

Ps- If you have any safe fun diet tips, don’t be shy to share :)
